Białowieża [ bʲawɔˈvʲɛʒa ] ( Lithuanian Bialovieža ; Belarusian Белаве́жа ; German Bialowies , Bialowiez or Belowesch ) is a village in the powiat Hajnowski of the Podlaskie Voivodeship in Poland . It is the seat of the rural community of the same name .

Secret negotiations between Russian and Polish emissaries took place in Białowieża during the Polish-Soviet War in the second half of 1919. During the Polish-Soviet War , Białowieża became Polish.
