Konica Minolta Tower Center is the name of a lookout tower in Niagara Falls, Canada . The 99 meter high tower in the immediate vicinity of the Horseshoe Falls of Niagara Falls also houses a hotel and a restaurant in its multi-storey tower cage . After renovation work, the tower was painted white, the advertising banner was removed and the external digital clock was removed. Three years after the opening of the Konica Minolta Tower, the nearby Skylon Tower was opened.

history

Construction of the observation tower at Niagara Falls began on March 15, 1961. During the construction work, a small fire accident occurred on September 2, 1961, caused by a propane gas explosion during the transport of concrete. The property damage remained minor and nine people suffered minor burns. The tower was opened on July 1, 1962.

The tower was originally called the Seagram Tower and changed its name due to numerous changes of ownership. It was called the Heritage Tower in 1969 , the Royal Inn Tower in 1971 , the Royal Center Tower in 1972 , the Panasonic Tower in 1973 , the Minolta Tower from 1984 to 2007 and its current name Konica Minolta Tower Center since 2008 .

description

On the 25th floor of the tower is the publicly accessible viewing deck, which is equipped with glare-free glass from floor to ceiling for a better view. In addition to historical photographs, there is also information on the construction of the tower and binoculars. A gourmet restaurant, renovated in 2005, is located on the same level as the observation deck.

While the tower co-determined the skyline of the city in the 1960s, the formative influence decreased due to the increasing construction of high-rise hotel buildings in the Fallsview district, in which the tower is located.
