Konrad Hofer (sociologist)

Konrad Hofer (born October 5, 1955 in Obermillstatt ) is an Austrian sociologist who works primarily in the field of field research .

Konrad Hofer is the eighth child of a family of twelve mountain farmers. He graduated from the Humanist Gymnasium in Tanzenberg in 1975 , then studied sociology and ethnology in Vienna and received his master's degree in 1982 ( looking for accommodation in Vienna ), and in 1985 doctor ( visiting people from Turkey in Vienna ).

Hofer carried out numerous studies for which he himself entered the milieus of the groups of people examined (→ participant observation ). From 1987 to 1989 he worked as a temporary worker and from 1990 to 1991 as a Romanian worker disguised on the work line in Vienna.

His first work, a football fan study, was funded by the Federal Ministry of the Interior, most of the following from the Vienna Chamber of Labor .

In 2002 he founded the Institute for Qualitative Work and Environment Research (IQUAL).
