Konrad Schittek (born November 6, 1946 in Hamburg ) is a German artist, author and entrepreneur.

Life

Konrad Schittek was born the middle of three brothers. His parents Helga and Gerd Schittek studied art at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts.

Schittek learned drawing and painting from his parents early on. After attending school, he completed an apprenticeship as a lithographer and stone lithographer. This shaped his accuracy and attention to detail in his pictures. After stays in the USA, Cape Town and the Congo, he worked as a freelance painter, graphic artist and lithographer. Watercolors, lead and pen drawings were created, and later also graphic prints in flat and lithographic printing. He has two sons Felix Schittek and Jan Schittek.

Schittek was particularly successful with painting on tiles. In 1978 he founded a tile manufacturer in Hamburg-Altona, where he produced hand-painted tiles . After numerous exhibitions in northern Germany and reports in the press, his artistic work shifted. Tiles were bought and stored that were needed as replacement tiles in the event of damage. This work resulted in the Fliesenhandel Schittek GmbH in 1988.

In 2007 he opened the Tile Museum Hamburg , which is housed in the rooms of his tile trade.

In 1986 Schittek moved to the Alte Land near Hamburg and painted characteristic landscape elements such as the Elbe and the river course of the Este, the orchards, farms and churches, the townscapes of Estebrügge and Buxtehude for 25 years.
