Konrad Umlauf

Konrad Umlauf (born September 4, 1952 in Berlin ) is a German librarian , author and since 1992 university professor at the Institute for Library and Information Science in Berlin.

Life

Umlauf studied German, economics, business education and journalism at the Free University of Berlin from 1972 to 1977 . After completing his studies, he became a library clerk in Berlin-Tiergarten and, in 1978, lecturer for the German Academic Exchange Service in Helsinki . After training as a qualified librarian and receiving his doctorate in Berlin, Umlauf first worked at the America Memorial Library before becoming head of the Ludwigsburg City Library in 1983 . In 1989 a three-year position as director at the Heilbronn City Library followed .

In 1992 Umlauf was appointed university professor at the Free University of Berlin, and in 1994 he moved to the newly established Institute for Library and Information Science (IBI) at the Humboldt University in Berlin .

In 2015 he was awarded the Karl Preusker Medal .

In 2017, the IBI honored Konrad Umlauf with a commemorative publication on his 65th birthday.
