Konrad von Orelli

Konrad von Orelli (born November 6, 1788 in Zurich ; † July 10, 1854 there ) was a Swiss high school teacher for French and philosophy, author of an early grammar of Old French .

life and work

Konrad von Orelli was the son of Governor David von Orelli (1759–1813) and the younger brother of the philologist Johann Caspar von Orelli . As a reformed clergyman (1810) he was a teacher of French (later also Latin) at the Zurich Citizens' School from 1819 to 1833, from 1833 to 1846 professor of propaedeutic philosophical sciences at the Upper Gymnasium there, and from 1837 to 1853 French teacher at the Lower Industrial School.

Orelli published the first (and accordingly imperfect) grammar of Old French:

  • Old French grammar, in which the conjugation is preferred . In addition to an appendix of old fabliaux et contes which correspond to Schiller's course after the iron hammer, Wieland's water vat, Bürger's Lied von Treue, Langbein's Kirschbaum; and some fragments from the Roman du Renart, Zurich 1830 (420 pages); 2nd edition ud T. Old French grammar (theory of forms) with many conjectures and corrections , Zurich 1848 (429 pages)
