Constantine blast furnace in Eisentratten

The Konstantin blast furnace is a historic blast furnace in Eisentratten , a district of Krems in Carinthia in the Spittal an der Drau district . The building is considered the landmark of the place and adorns the coat of arms of the municipality of Krems.

On August 13, 1566, the first blast furnace was built by Jakob Türgg in Eisentratten and put into operation. At first it was stucco ovens , then 4-5 m high raft ovens were used. After the blast furnace in Kremsbrücke was closed in 1834, the Konstantin blast furnace in Eisentratten was built in 1862 by Count Konstantin Lodron in the style of Italian fortresses and castles. After it was shut down for the first time in 1882 due to the cessation of iron ore mining in Innerkrems, it was reopened in 1890 and finally shut down the following year.

The industrial monument, which has been restored several times, has a three-layer structure and a total height of over 20 meters. The rough masonry consists of hewn blocks made of green slate .
