Konstantin Konstantinowitsch Sergijenko ( Russian Константин Константинович Сергиенко ; born September 17, 1940 in Stalinogorsk ; † March 6, 1996 in Moscow ) was a Russian author of children's and youth literature.

life and work

Sergiyenko graduated from Lomonosov University in Moscow in 1967 with a degree in journalism . He then worked for the children's book publisher Detskaja Kniha and the Molodaja Gwardija publishing house.

His work ranges from historical adventure stories to fairy tales and fantasy novels to poetic love stories.

His debut novel Kees, the Tulip Admiral (1975), which acts during the Dutch War of Independence, became a classic in Russian literature for young people and won the 2011 book prize of the Moscow Central Children's Library in the category “Best Republication of a Classic”.

In his historical adventure novels, Sergijenko combined historical research and crime fiction elements to get young readers excited about historical topics. Kees, the Tulip Admiral and Awakening in Borodino (1977) are part of the extended history class in Russia.

The short story The Gorge of the Free Dogs (1979) is one of his best known works. It formed the basis for several cartoons as well as musicals and theatrical performances.

His lyrical fairy tale Das Pappherz (1981) has been translated into numerous languages.
