Constantine of Mananalis († 684 ), also called Silvanus , is considered the first apostle and founder of the Paulikians .

Constantine was born in Mananalis in what was then Syria near the now better known ancient city of Samosata . In his doctrine of the faith he is said to have referred in particular to Paul of Tarsus , Marcion , the four Gospels and traditions of early Christianity . He venerated Jesus Christ as a prophet sent by God, but was against his equation with God and the associated cult of Mary . He founded the first Paulican congregation around 655 in Kibossa near Colonia in Armeniakon . The growing number of his followers as a result of the almost 30 years of missionary activity finally found the attention of the emperors Konstans II. And Konstantin IV. , Who rejected this belief and sentenced Konstantin-Silvanus to death. Constantine remained leader of the Paulicians until he was martyred by stoning in 684.
