The professional training technical assistant for construction and production technology is a training occupation in Germany in the professional field of metal construction .

The training conveys mechanical engineering content such as the preparation of detailed designs for machine systems, machine assignment plans and the calculation of processing times. Furthermore, the design and production assistant knows the following:

• CNC program creation
• Quality assurance (with implementation, documentation and evaluation of the material test )
• Production preparation
• Calculations relating to static and dynamic loads on systems

The training is school-based and is accompanied by a 12-week internship and learning tasks. This includes a basic internship in which hand tools and machine tools such as drill presses, saws, lathes and milling machines are used in a targeted manner. Training-specific subjects are mechanical engineering , mathematics, construction and manufacturing technology , business administration and specialist metalwork.
