Office building of the Hüstern trade union

The office building of the Hüsten trade union is a listed building in Hüsten (today Arnsberg ) from 1916.

history

The Hüsten trade union was a mining industry with its headquarters in Hüsten. The company experienced operational expansion after the turn of the 20th century. Blast furnaces and other parts of the operation were added to the previous rolling mills . This was associated with a sharp increase in the number of employees. However, the large-scale expansion turned out to be a costly wrong decision for various reasons. This made the plant a takeover candidate. In 1916 it became the property of Gelsenkirchener Bergwerks-AG (GBAG). In the same year the office building was rebuilt. It replaced an older building. The fact that the representative building took place during the First World War speaks for the importance of the work at that time. During the First World War, the company profited from arms contracts. After the transition of GBAG to the United Steelworks in 1926, iron and steel production came to an end and the workforce was reduced. Until the end of the plant in 1966, the office building served the administration of the plant. After that, the building was used for various purposes. A doctor's practice has been set up there for several years. The building was entered in the list of monuments of the city of Arnsberg in 1988 under the number DL 225 .

construction

The building was built in the neo-baroque style using brick . The building is characterized by a strictly symmetrical architecture. In the middle of the front there is a rusticated portal porch that includes the window on the first floor above. The base is designed as a boss masonry . The corner pilaster strips , the stone walls of the windows and the cornice contribute to the structure of the facade. The half-hip roof is characterized by three long dormers .
