The Kontrakthaus ( Ukrainian Контрактовий будинок / Kontraktowyj budynok ) is a classicistic building erected between 1815 and 1817 in the north of Kontraktowa Square in the Podil district of the Ukrainian capital Kiev .
history
After the previous building was destroyed in the great fire of 1811 in Podil, the building was erected by architects Andrei Iwanowitsch Melenski and William Hastie in the years 1815-1817. The portal with its Tuscan columns supported by a triangular pediment is one of the best examples of classicism.
