Andrei Ivanovich Melensky

Andrey Melensky ( Russian Андрей Иванович Меленский , * 1766 in Moscow ; † 1. January 1833 in Kiev ) was an acting in Kiev architect of classicism .

Life

He studied in Moscow and Saint Petersburg , and together with Giacomo Quarenghi was involved in the construction of palaces in Saint Petersburg. From June 1799 to March 1829 Melenski was the first city architect of Kiev and built numerous buildings, especially after the great fire of 1811 in the Kiev district of Podil . He lived near the Nikolai Prytyska Church , Chorywa Street 11-13 in Kiev-Podil.

His most outstanding works were the Church of the Nativity of Christ on Postplatz , the Kontrakthaus , the central building of the Kiev Mohyla Academy and the Hostynyj Dwir on Kontraktowa Square , the Church of the Exaltation of the Cross and the Monument to Magdeburg Law , all in Podil as well as St. Nicholas Church on Askold's grave .
