The Nikolai Prytyska Church ( Ukrainian Церква Миколи Притиска / Zerkwa Mykoly Prytyska ) is an Orthodox church building of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kiev Patriarchate and, as the oldest surviving building in Podils, an architectural monument in the Ukrainian capital Kiev .

history

The church was built between 1695 and 1707 in the style of the Ukrainian Baroque in place of the wooden predecessor churches , which were dedicated to St. Nicholas , which had existed since the time of the Kievan Rus . (Other sources give 1631 as the year of completion.) The bell tower of the church building is built in the classical style. The church survived several fires. For the first time it was badly damaged by fire in 1718, the second time in 1811 the church survived the great Podil fire that broke out near it . The architect Andrei Melenski took over the management of the restoration between 1812 and 1820. In World War II it was damaged again and completely renovated in 1990 last time.
