Hostynyj Dwir ( Ukrainian Гостиний двір ) is a historic trading house on Kontraktowa Square in the Podil district of the Ukrainian capital Kiev .
history
The construction of the classical building began in 1809 under the architect Luigi Rusca , but was delayed by the great fire in Podil in 1811 and Napoleon's Russian campaign in 1812 . The building erected for trade fairs was not completed until 1828 by the architect Andrei Melenski , but due to lack of money and the loss of the building plans, without the originally planned additional floor. The building was finally topped up in the 1980s after the old blueprints were found. Six gates led into the 100 m × 60 m building with arcades , from which the 50 shops located here could be reached.
The building is currently used by exclusive shops, restaurants and a library, among other things.
