history

In 1900 the Kärntner Sparkasse opened a “music hall building” - today's concert hall - and dedicated it to the Carinthian Music Association . The historicist building, built from 1898 to 1900 according to plans by Leopold Theyer , was almost completely destroyed in 1944, with the exception of one hall.

After the west wing was restored in 1947, the State Conservatory resumed teaching. In 1951 the restoration of the war damage was completed by a complete renovation of the building and the concert hall was able to reopen in 1952 with a concert by the Vienna Philharmonic .

In 1994/95 the building was extended according to plans by Eduard Egger . The State Conservatory is now housed in this new attic.
