Concert sail in Radolfzell

The concert sail is a stage roof that was erected in 1989 for the open-air stage on the promenade of Radolfzell on Lake Constance and is protected as a cultural monument .

history

The construction in the form of a large fishing net is the prototype for the curved facade of the German pavilion at the Expo 1992 in Seville , which was dismantled again after the world exhibition. In the prototype, a cable net construction was covered with polycarbonate sheets for the first time , which means that the structure is of importance in terms of architecture and engineering . The sail covered an area of 340 square meters and cost around 700,000 marks .

After the renovation of the old town, the city of Radolfzell redesigned the lakeshore south of the train station in the mid-1980s. The old embankment walls were removed and a natural embankment was created by embankment, which is shaped by the architecture of the concert sail. It has since been considered one of the city's landmarks (next to the cathedral ) and has been a listed building since September 2017 because of its special construction. The city is responsible for maintenance. Plastic panels, which are likely to be deliberately damaged by stone throwing, have to be replaced almost regularly.

Not only musical events take place under the sail; one of the altars of the Corpus Christi procession is also being built there.
