Jacobus Nicolaas Maria Richelle (born January 5, 1949 in Bandung , Indonesia ) is a Dutch administrative lawyer, former ministerial official and since 2001 one of the general directors in the administration of the European Union .

Life

Richelle studied public and constitutional law at the University of Rotterdam from 1968 to 1972 . He then worked for the Dutch Ministry of Education and Science until 1981. Then he moved to the city administration of Leiden and in 1985 to the Ministry of Health and Welfare, from 1987 as Director General for the latter area. From 1995 to 2000 he was department head for international cooperation in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and then briefly worked in the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs. He then joined the administration of the European Union, initially from 2001 to 2010 as Director General of the Directorate-General for Development and Cooperation, and since January 2011 of the Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities (DG EMPL).
