Copaonics
The Kopaonik ( Serbian - Cyrillic Копаоник , Albanian also Kopaoniku or Mali i Kopaonikut ) is a mountain range in southern Serbia , about 260 km south of Belgrade . The southern part of the mountain lies in Kosovo and extends there to Mitrovica . With a length of 120 km and a maximum width of 60 km, it is the largest mountain range in Serbia . The highest mountain of the Kopaonik, the Pančićev vrh , is not the highest mountain in Serbia at 2017 m .
The mountains are well suited for summer and winter sports , the reasons for this are the snow reliability of around 160 days a year and over 200 sunny days a year. That is why the mountains are also nicknamed "Mountains of Sun and Snow" . There are geysers and waterfalls in Kopaonik , including Jelovarnik , the highest waterfall in Serbia .
A ski center was established on Kopaonik in the 1970s , which was modernized and expanded in 2006, and a national park in the 1980s . The mountains are used by tourism .
