Head hole

The head hole is a dredging hole that was dug by the Kopf Kies company for gravel extraction in the river bed of the Old Rhine . It is located in Austria in the state of Vorarlberg in Altach directly on the border with Switzerland .

Today gravel is no longer extracted in the head hole. The area serves the residents of the surrounding communities as a recreational area and is a popular destination for bathers, fishermen, walkers and divers. On the site of the gravel works directly on the bank is the gallery in the gravel , which exhibits contemporary works of art in open space twice a year.
