Klaus Schädelin (born September 17, 1918 in Bern ; † December 13, 1987 there ) was a Swiss Reformed pastor , politician and writer .

Life

Schädelin was born in 1918 on Herrengasse in Bern. His father was Albert Schädelin , theology professor and pastor at the Bern Minster . After graduating from high school in 1938, Schädelin studied theology at the universities of Bern and Basel . After graduating, he worked from 1945 to 1947 as vicar in Attiswil , from 1947 to 1949 as pastor in Hünibach and then for nine years as pastor at the Petruskirche in Bern.

In 1955 his best-known work was published, the youth book Mein Name ist Eugen , which was filmed in 2004 under the same title . From Roman Riklin it was as a musical My name is Eugen processed.

In 1958 he was elected as a representative of the newly founded Junge Berns ( Green Free List since 1997 ) in the Bern municipal council (city government). There he headed the welfare and health department, and at times also the police and civil engineering department. From 1962 to 1970 he was also a member of the Bernese Grand Council (cantonal parliament). In 1973 he resigned from the local council after a heart attack and retired.

Together with René Gardi , he traveled to Syria in 1960 , from which the book When You Go to Syria was written. In November 1968 he was one of the founders of the Swiss prisoners' union . In 1973 he was a founding member of the Terra Vecchia Foundation and its first president. From 1983 to 1985 he worked as a time-critical author and presenter for the satirical program Zytlupe on the Swiss radio station DRS 1 .

Klaus Schädelin was married to the saddler's daughter Hulda (née Balmer) and had three children. He is buried in the Bremgarten cemetery in Bern .
