occupation

My name is Eugen is a Swiss film from 2005 by director Michael Steiner . The script is loosely based on the novel of the same name by Klaus Schädelin .

action

In the 1960s , the rascals Eugen, Wrigley, Bäschteli and Eduard lived in Bern and devised one prank after the other. Wrigley is therefore to be sent to boarding school. He and Eugen discover a treasure map from Fritzli Bühler, the king of the rascals who once lived in the same house. The heroes run away and go in search of Fritzli Bühler, who is supposed to live in Zurich. The adventurous escape leads them through half of Switzerland, where they are followed by angry farmers, worried parents and many police officers. During the search, the four boys make a covenant: "We want to be a united nation of brats ...". They achieve national fame - even if only on wanted posters - and finally arrive in Zurich .

There they are looking for Fritzli Bühler. First they end up with the wrong police officer, before they finally meet the right one, who is now dealing with broken televisions. Together with Fritzli, the rascals ship his unpopular neighbors onto an ocean freighter. Overnight, however, Fritzli disappears with the card and the four of them only have to return to their parents.

With a little more than 500,000 visitors, the film is one of the most successful Swiss films.

Mistake in the movie

The crocodile locomotive ( Ce 6/8 II 14253 of the SBB Historic ) is a freight locomotive with a top speed of only 65 km / h. It was never used for passenger trains on the Gotthard line. In the 1960s, she only drove in the lowlands anyway; it was too weak for the requirements of the Gotthard ramp. The passenger cars date from the 1930s and were perhaps still used occasionally in the 1960s, but rarely on the Gotthard route.

The Citroën DS existed in the 1960s, but not the model shown in the film. The steering headlights under glass were available from 1967, but the recessed door handles only from 1971.

The fact that Wrigley does not speak Bern German is not a mistake in the film, as the inspiration for his character is said to have been Richard von Weizsäcker, who went to school with him in Bern in the 1930s, the book author's youth.

Reviews

"Elaborate dialect film adaptation of the classic Swiss children's book by Klaus Schädelin, which initially strikes a brisk pace, then finds a more appropriate rhythm and offers slightly over-the-top, entertaining family cinema."
