Patrick Frey (born January 20, 1949 in Bern ) is a Swiss author , publisher , cabaret artist and actor .

Life

After graduating from high school , studies in economics and art history followed , which he never finished. From 1977 onwards he worked primarily with texts on contemporary art, first in the InK , the halls for new international art in Zurich, then as an art critic for various print media. Since 1983 he has also dedicated himself to cabaret, theater and projects for radio and television.

Between 1979 and 1983 Frey was a permanent art critic and cultural journalist for the Tages-Anzeiger and the WOZ . From 1983 he was a freelance author and essayist for international media of contemporary art such as everyday life, parquet , skyscrapers, Flash Art , Art Forum , etc. a.

In 1981 he curated the exhibition “Pictures” at the Kunstmuseum Winterthur , with works by Urs Lüthi , Martin Disler , Klaudia Schifferle , Olivia Etter, Peter Fischli and David Weiss , Walter Pfeiffer , Anton Bruhin, Anselm Stalder and François Viscontini. The catalog of the same name, "Pictures", written and produced by Frey, was published in 1981 in Winterthur.

From 1994 various columns were created, including a. for WOZ, K-Tip, Tages-Anzeiger. From 2003 to 2007, Patrick Frey wrote the satirical column "List" for the Tagesanzeiger Zurich, alternating with Viktor Giacobbo and Lorenz Keizer.

In 2010 Patrick Frey wrote the first volume of his novel series «Hausarzt Dr. Bolliger - His life, his love, his patients »with the title The secret of the tram driver . In October 2012 the second volume (and last volume) was published, The Eczem was Her Fate . Everyday life in a normal Zurich family doctor's practice is discussed.

Cabaret, comedy, theater

From 1983 to 1998 Patrick Frey was a member of the Götterspass cabaret ( Salzburger Stier 1992), alongside Beat Schlatter . Götterspass also provided several television reports for the satirical show the way, the Swiss television . Together with Schlatter, Frey performed at the Arosa Humor Festival in 1992 and 2010 .

From 1992 until today he writes as an author or co-author for the independent scene, the Schauspielhaus Zürich, the Casinotheater Winterthur and the Hechtplatz Theater; so far over twenty comedies, teasing and other full-length theater productions, in which he is mostly on stage as an actor, most recently “Seegfrörni 2012” and “Supertheo” (2011). He is also active as an author, co-author and actor in numerous film and television film productions.

From 1999 to 2007 he played the continuous role of Kurt Schwarz in the TV soap Lüthi and Blanc . Since 2000 Frey has been co-initiator, board member, author and actor of the new casino theater in Winterthur , which has established itself as the center of the German-speaking Swiss comedy scene.

Film, television, radio

From 1983 to 1996 he moderated first together with Martin Hess, then alone the «talk show» on Radio LoRa . The “talk show” was one of the first nightly conversation and phone-in programs in German-speaking countries and initially lasted from midnight to 9 a.m. Between 1996 and 2011 Frey appeared in numerous Swiss films, as an actor and as a screenwriter. In 2001 he founded the film production company Schumacher & Frey with Iwan Schumacher . Together they develop the television program C'est la vie , which was hosted by Patrick Frey. C'est la vie was broadcast on SF1 between 2001 and 2003 and, as a talk show (112 episodes), was a relatively new format of its kind: Frey invited passers-by straight from the street for a cup of coffee and asked them to share their life story with him unprepared to tell.

Patrick Frey also became very well known for his role as "expert" Dr. Werner Stolte-Benrath in Viktor's program or Viktor's late-night program . As such, it functions as a running gag : It was a regular feature of the program that Viktor Giacobbo announced an expert for a conversation at the bar during the live part in Kaufleuten . But for any topic, whether Iraq or futurology, it was Stolte-Benrath on which Giacobbo stood at the bar.
