Barbara Kulcsar (born February 26, 1971 in Zurich ) is a Swiss - Hungarian film director and screenwriter .

biography

Barbara Kulcsar was born and raised in Zurich as the daughter of Hungarian refugees. After graduating from high school, she attended drama school in Budapest, studied Spanish literature in Barcelona and sociology and film studies at the University of Zurich. In 1999 she completed a film degree at the Zurich University of Art and Design . Barbara Kulcsar lives with her husband, the film producer HC Vogel and their two sons in Zurich.

Kulcsar's graduation film has won several awards, her feature film debut for two won the Zurich Film Prize, and Linda Olsansky was nominated for the Swiss Film Prize for best leading actress. In 2011 she made the television feature film Nebelgrind , which was nominated for the 3sat audience award and shown in the competition at the Baden-Baden television film festival. Leading actor Peter Freiburghaus received the Swiss Television Film Award . Her television fiction made in 2013 was also nominated for the 3sat audience award and shown in the competition of the Baden-Baden television film festival.

For the television feature film Zwiespalt, shot in 2017, Barbara Kulcsar was awarded the television film prize of the German Academy of Performing Arts at the Baden-Baden television film festival. In 2018 Kulcsar shot three episodes of the television series Der Undatter , as well as an episode of the German crime film series Tödliche Secrets , and in 2019 a crime scene for SWR.
