Tina Freyburg

Tina Margarete Freyburg (born November 15, 1979 in Stuttgart ) is a German professor of political science . She has taught since 2015 Comparative Political Science (Comparative Politics) at the School of Economics and Political Science (SEPS) of the University of St. Gallen , where she also director of the Master's program is International Affairs and Governance and co-director of the Institute of Political Science (IPW ).

academic career

Tina Margarete Freyburg studied at the University of Mannheim and the Ruprecht-Karls-University of Heidelberg and graduated in 2006 with a master's degree in political science with psychology , media and communication sciences as minor subjects. She received her doctorate from ETH Zurich in 2011 . The topic of her dissertation was "Transnational influences and democratic socialization in authoritarian contexts". The work was awarded the prize of the Swiss Institute for International Research for the best dissertation in the social sciences .

Further training stations were the European University Institute in Florence and the University of Warwick . Freyburg is the author of numerous scientific publications and books.

Her research focuses on democracy and democratization research in a globalized and digital world.

Mid-January 2020 has Tina Freyburg at the opening of the Competence Center for African Studies of the University of St. Gallen presented a study (Competence Center for African Research CCAR-HSG), which examines the influence of Internet blockades on election results in African countries. Based on the 2016 elections in Uganda , her research team analyzed the role of telecom companies during an Internet shutdown. The scientific field work was documented in the film "Citizens Offline".
