Basket (weapon)

Knuckle-bow hilt (basket) on a sword

The basket is a hand protection on sabers , rapiers and swords .

The shape of the basket has been changed again and again over time in order to continuously improve the protection of the guide hand. These baskets range from the simple protective bar that protects the fingers to the basket that encloses almost the entire lead hand. The basket can be fully worked, shown openwork or composed of brackets.
