A basket bat is a student's fencing weapon that is used for lengthways . The hand protection of this cutting weapon is a wire basket. The other form of the student beater is the bell beater that is widespread in eastern Germany .

The basket racket (in the blunt version as a training weapon also called " Haurapier " earlier ) developed after 1767 from the Göttingen hammer . It is divided into a blade and a vessel . Components of the racket are the blade, basket, handle, loop, nut and nut. Components of the basket are main parrying bars, secondary paring bars, chopping plate, third and quarters bars.

One differentiates:

  • Timpani (blunt blade) for practice,
  • Parade bat (blunt parade blade with blunt end or blunt state father blade with sharp point, basket with colored insert) for charging and
  • Scale racket (sharp blade, basket with colored insert) for fencing scale lengths.

The basket of the racket is similar to that of the academic saber .
