A basket lift is a cable car in which several baskets for the transport of people are clamped to a continuously revolving rope and are thereby moved on one side from one station to the other and on the opposite side back to the first station, whereby the rope is usually over Cable car supports runs.

Basket lifts consist of a mostly open Korbgehänge. If these standing cabins are closed, one speaks more of a gondola lift . On the whole, these lifts are comparable to a gondola lift. However, in comparison to normal gondola lifts, they have only been created in a fixed-clamped design. So that passengers can get on and off easily in the stations, these lifts run at a lower speed than lifts where the armchairs in the station are uncoupled. Examples are the Laveno cable car , the basket lift from Vellau ( Lagundo ) to the Leiteralm , the cable car in Gubbio in Italy and the cable car in Svetlogorsk , which connects the train station with the beach on the Baltic Sea.

People capacity

Basket lifts used to be built for two people. In the recent past, however, cage lifts have been manufactured for 4, 5 (Telebourg France) or more people. There is a 6-person cage lift (CLOS FOURNIER, France, Chalets, France), a 12-person cage lift (LA PINATELLE, France) and a 24-person cage lift (Télécentre). The cage lifts for two, four or six people are firmly clamped and connected to the rotating disc. This means that there are no waiting times because the train follows immediately. With the two larger (12 and 24 seat cage lifts) you have to wait a short time until they come up again, as these are so-called fixed-clamp group lifts.
