Basket theater Alfred Büttner

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Korbtheater Alfred Büttner , a mobile puppet theater in Germany, was founded in 1989 by the puppeteer Alfred Büttner (* 1966 in Schweinfurt ). It was born out of the idea of creating a theater that is unique of its kind. The basket theater is based on the historical peep-box stages of the 17th century. The special feature of the basket theater are the stages that are fully part of braided willow consist. Each one is handcrafted and with a view to the requirements of a theater. The combination of wickerwork and culture is unique in Germany.

Directorate

Alfred Büttner is the director of the basket theater. After completing his school career, he completed training as a mechanic as well as a nanny and goldsmith . His affinity for the theater and the encounter with the basket weaver Johannes Bauer gave him the idea of creating the basket theater. Since then, Alfred Büttner has not only designed unusual stages for this, but also appears as the author of numerous pieces and mostly builds the characters and props himself.

The basket stages

Since the theater was founded, around 18 different stages have been created by basket weaver Johannes Bauer. Two variants dominate the stage shapes:

The small basket stage

The small basket stage is an approximately 90 cm high, semicircular stage made of wickerwork. It is on a tripod and therefore has a total height of around 2 meters. This means that the puppeteer cannot be seen. He enters the stage from behind and plays partly with hand puppets , partly with stick figures overhead.

The big basket stage

The large basket stage is about 2.70 meters high in a rectangular shape. It can be rotated through 360 degrees, which makes it possible to create different sets in a short time. It is also played with hand and stick figures from the inside.

Productions

Alfred Büttner has been developing theater productions for children and adults since 1989.

His first piece, The Enchanted Shoe , was a success in 1990 and performed at various theater festivals in Germany and Europe.

This is followed by other productions and stage forms, in which Büttner - both thematically and structurally - always relies on further and new developments. So he designed a tray basket theater that is also used as a walk act.

A few years later, Alfred Büttner breaks away from his classic wicker stages and constructs the intergalactic "rocket theater". For the play Sternschnuppe 463144 he also uses numerous special effects .

Büttner set a record with his piece Loretta Australia . In 1994, together with Johannes Bauer, he produced the largest basket stage that existed worldwide for the piece at the time. It is a wickerwork with a play area of 4 × 3 × 3 m and several play levels.

Another, completely new stage shape celebrates its premiere in 2001: the first rotating basket stage is inaugurated with the family piece Lutz, die Wutz .

Range of topics

The themes of Büttner's pieces range from the irreplaceable value of friendship with Marlo, what are you doing ?! up to the curiosity and thirst for adventure of the little dragon Frederick in the play of the same name. For the soccer world championship in Germany he developed the play A direct hit for Lutz and traveled with it through the republic.

The piece "Paule gets a taste for" revolves around healthy eating and exercise, which Büttner produced on behalf of the catering company Sodexo and has been performing in schools and day-care centers for over a decade.

In 2013 Büttner adapted a well-known children's play for the first time. Büttner made a play out of the literary model The Little Raven Sock - Hitting until the milk tooth wobbles . In the play Tom, the Sheep , children are taught manners and good behavior. His current production Olga unpacks deals with the topics of waste avoidance and environmental awareness and explains sustainable behavior to kindergarten and primary school children in a playful way.

The pieces are performed on cabaret stages, in kindergartens, schools, but also theater festivals such as the tete-a-tete in Rastatt, the street theater festival in Idar-Oberstein or the Steinau puppet show.

The first radio play

Olga unpacks is also the basis for the first radio play of the Korbtheater, which Alfred Büttner brought out together with his wife Stefanie and Michael Schmitt in 2016.

25 years of basket theater

Alfred Büttner celebrated his 25th stage anniversary in 2014 with a review of 20 productions and 50,000 spectators.

The play It's never too late illuminates everyday life in a retirement home. For the performances, Büttner traveled to retirement homes and circles all over Germany. Due to the great response, the continuation of the piece “Die Reise” followed in 2004 and the production “As life so plays” in 2014.

Variety programs

In addition to the basket theater, Alfred Büttner also appears with other acts at large variety festivals throughout Germany and Europe. Among other things, he develops a program with large figures for the gala area or takes on the guests of large receptions and matinees as “Butler Alfred”.

The “Handoper”, which premiered in 2000, met with a great response both at home and abroad. For this, Büttner reduces everything to his hands and lets them play La Traviata. He is musically accompanied by Michael Christoph Schmitt.
