The figure of the little raven with a single, red and white ringed sock was created in 1996 for the picture book Alles meins! Created by the illustrator Annet Rudolph . The text was written by the children's book author Nele Moost .

So far, around 100 picture, learning, school and coloring books with the little raven have been published by Esslinger Verlag or its former parent publisher Klett . The focus of the short stories, in which other animals appear in addition to the raven, is mostly about friendship and how to deal with personal strengths and weaknesses. Biologically incorrect, the raven with its yellow beak and red feet is more like an alpine chough .

Book translations have appeared in around twenty countries. There are also numerous non-book products, including the educational CD-ROM Alles Theater from Tivola Verlag , which was awarded the Pedi award .

In the children's television show Our Sandman , Rabe Socke is one of the series characters. At least 26 partially animated short films have been shown there since 1998 . The content is based on the book stories by Nele Moost.

On September 6, 2012, the movie The Little Raven Sock was released in German cinemas. On August 20, 2015, The Little Raven Socke 2 - The Big Race followed . In 2017/18 a third film with the title The Little Raven Sock - The Search for the Lost Treasure was produced. The film ran in the cinema from December 12, 2019.

The 52-part cartoon series Der kleine Rabe Socke was produced for the children's channel KiKA , of which a total of 26 episodes were broadcast from December 1 to 26, 2016. As of May 2017, another 26 episodes were broadcast.
