Korea Animal Rights Advocates

The ASPCA Korea Animal Rights Advocates (short KARA ; . Kor  동물권 행동 카라 , rev.  Dongmulgwonhaengdong Kara ) is a registered association in Seoul ( South Korea ). The association is committed to the well-being of pets , wild animals , laboratory animals and zoo animals . The president is the South Korean film director Yim Soon-rye . The opera singer Sumi Jo is on the honorary board and supports the association.

history

KARA goes back to the Areumpum ( 아름품 ) group founded on April 15, 2002 . In 2006 it was renamed KARA and registered as a non-profit citizens' movement. In 2010, KARA registered with the Ministry of Food, Forestry and Fisheries as a legal association. Since 2019, KARA has been building the animal shelter The Bom in Paju with the support of donations , in which 200 animals are to be housed.

Club work

The association's campaigns in Korea are directed against animal experiments , animal shows in zoos, dog meat consumption and real fur coats . KARA would like to change the Animal Welfare Act . The association organizes various cultural activities such as photo exhibitions to educate people about animal welfare. Neutering campaigns are important projects of the association and should help to control the number of street cats.

In 2014 KARA founded an education center with the aim of improving animal welfare in South Korea through several educational programs. The main office of the association is also located there. The KARA adoption center looks after abandoned animals and takes them into care until the animals can be placed.

Voluntary association members support private animal shelters without government support in South Korea with food, repairs or medical care.
