Fur coat (2014)

A fur coat is a piece of clothing that has been made by a furrier from animal skins in the shape of a coat . The hair side of the skins can be worked outwards or inwards (with the leather side facing out). Textile coats lined with fur lining are usually no longer referred to as fur coats - around 1900, when modern fur fashion began to create furs with the hair facing outwards.

The fur is the most original clothing of the human being. Initially it was only used to protect against the cold, but later it met people's need for jewelry. The different uses of fur in the last few centuries have been formulated in such a way that the furrier “fed” in the Middle Ages, “occupied” in the Rococo period and “clothed” since the 20th century.

Currently favored by fashion fur types include lambskin , rabbit , mink , muskrat , fox , raccoon fur , nutria fur and astrakhan . The most valuable types of fur have always been sable and ermine fur and, more recently, chinchilla fur . Furs have been criticized by significant parts of animal welfare, increasingly since the 1990s.
