The Korean-language Wikipedia ( Hangeul : 한국어 위키 백과 , revised : Hangugeo Wikibaekgwa , McCune-Reischauer : Han'gugeo Wikibaekkwa ) is an online lexicon . Due to the isolation of North Korea , this Wikipedia is mainly written by South Koreans in the local variety of the Korean language .

history

After the Japanese-language Wikipedia was set up in September 2002 , the Chinese-language and Korean-language Wikipedia followed in October of that year . The latter had little article growth in the first year, which was due to problems with the support of the Korean alphabet in the underlying Wiki software and in Internet Explorer , which could only be resolved in September 2003. By August 2003 around 350 articles had been created. After that, growth increased significantly, so that on June 4, 2005 the mark of 10,000 articles was reached.

growth

According to statistics, the Korean Wikipedia counted 500,171 articles on June 17, 2020; of 631,150 registered employees, 2,567 were active. As of June 15, 2020, Korean Wikipedia contained 500,000 articles.
