Kornél Fekete-Kovács

Kornél Fekete-Kovács (* 1970 ) is a Hungarian jazz trumpeter, flugelhorn player and composer.

Kovács studied jazz at the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest. From 1990 to 1992 he was a member of the Fortinbrass Quintet , then until 1994 of the Brass Age Band . Between 1993 and 1998 he was also a member of the Oláh-Kálmán -Sextet . In 1993 he won first prize with his band and as best trumpeter at the Jazz Juniors Competition in Krakow .

In 1998 he was one of the founding members of the Budapest Jazz Orchestra , to which he was a member until 2005 and for which he composed the Budapest Jazz Suite . His second major composition for big band The Wayfarer was premiered in 2002 by the European Broadcasting Union Jazz Orchestra in Budapest.

In 1999 he founded the band Blacksmith Workshop , with whom he mainly performed his own compositions and arrangements. After the group broke up in 2002, he became a member of the Dés László Septet , the Class Jazz Band of Eszter Horgas and the Emil.Rulez Group . In the same year he was delegated by the Hungarian Ministry of Culture as a soloist to the Central European Jazz Connection . Since 2003 he has been a soloist in the Gábor Németh Project .

Kovács is the founder of the Budapest Big Band Festival , which he organized from 2001 to 2004. From 2003 to 2005 he was on the board of the Hungarian Jazz Federation and headed its big band department. In 2005 he became director of the Modern Art Orchestra and the following year he founded the Fekete-Kovács Kornél Quintet . He also teaches jazz trumpet at the Franz Liszt Music Academy and at the Kőbánya Music Studio . He has worked as a studio musician and soloist on more than 100 albums.
