Korres Natural Products SA is a listed company headquartered in the Athens suburb of Metamorfosi , which develops, produces and sells natural cosmetics from endemic plants of the Greek flora for personal care and internationally.

history

The company was founded by the pharmacist couple Giorgos (George) and Lena Korres in Athens. In 1992 they took over the family's pharmacy and from 1996 turned to the manufacture of cosmetics. The knowledge was partly due to the grandfather, who was a naturopath.

Until a few years ago, the company's products were sold exclusively in around 3,000 pharmacies in Greece, now there are 6,500. The brand is represented in 40 countries, in exclusive department stores in Tokyo, Sydney and Berlin, among others, and with 35 of its own stores in cities such as Athens, New York, London, Paris, Madrid and Singapore. The design of the shops, like the design of the packaging, is minimalist and limited to a few components.

In 2006 Korres was included in the list of the 500 most developed companies in Europe ( Europe's 500 ) as well as the CoolBrands . In March 2007 the company went public on the Athens Stock Exchange; in financial circles it has been judged as the most successful Greek public company in years. Since its inception, Korres has introduced two patented technologies.

Since 2010 Korres has been involved as a partner in the European Union-funded Agrocos project of the Pharmaceutical Department of the University of Athens , which is working on the utilization of natural products and building a library of plants and liquids.

Products

In total, Korres manufactures over 500 products in the areas of body, face and hair care as well as pharmaceutical herbal products. According to the company, they are based "on experience with over 3000 homeopathic herbs and herbal mixtures", the cosmetics are free from mineral oil and silicone. Some of the recipes have their origins in folk medicine, e.g. B. a yogurt-based sunscreen, since sunburn is traditionally treated with yogurt in Greece. Korres products are certified by the independent French control organization ECOCERT with the “Natural Cosmetics” seal, which allows a share of five percent synthetic substances.

In 2009 the journal Ökotest examined 26 body butter products and found, among other things, polycyclic musk compounds in Korres' body butter guava , which are fragrances that, according to the Ökotest, can accumulate in fatty tissue and possibly damage the liver.
