Corsican People's Union

The Corsican People's Union ( Corsican : Unione di u Populu Corsu , UPC) was a Corsican regional party .

The UPC was launched on July 17, 1977 as a gathering movement of moderate Corsican regionalism (as opposed to the militant nationalism of the FLNC ). The predecessor organization was the Association of Corsican Patriots (APC) founded on February 1, 1977 , which campaigned for the release of the imprisoned Edmond Simeoni . The restructuring of the APC along the lines of a political party led to the establishment of the UPC. Long-time party chairman was François Alfonsi .

In 2002 the UPC merged with two other Corsican nationalist groups in the newly founded Partitu di a Nazione Corsa . The new party also succeeded UPC's membership in the European Free Alliance .
