Kosrat Rasul Ali , ( Sorani کۆسرەت ڕەسووڵ عەلی; * 1952 near Ranya ) is the current acting chairman of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) .

Life

Kosrat was born in 1952 in Schiwaschok near Ranya in what was then the Kingdom of Iraq into a notable family. In 1975 he first joined the Democratic Party of Kurdistan , shortly afterwards its split off, Komala , whose student activities he organized. He was arrested by Iraqi police in 1977 but released three months later. Since 1984 he has taken on various management positions at the PUK and was wounded in the neck in a battle in 1985. During the Raperîn uprising, as commander of the Peshmerga, he was responsible for the capture of Kirkuk and Erbil , he also commanded units of the PUK - Peshmerga in the DPK-PUK conflict and in the fight against Ansar al-Islam in 2003. In 1992 he was given a seat in the Parliament of Kurdistan, in 1993 he became Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Autonomous Region . In 2005 and again in 2009 he was elected vice-president. Since the death of Jalal Talabani , he has been the PUK's first deputy general secretary and provisionally heads the party.
