Kossel-Stranski theory

The Kossel-Stranski theory describes the crystal growth through electrostatic interactions on the surface of the corresponding crystal . The core message of the theory is that ions accumulate on a crystal surface exactly where the highest energy gain can be expected. The theory is named after the physicists Walther Kossel and Iwan Stranski .

Energetic consideration of the crystal growth

Imagine a one-dimensional chain of ions with alternately different electrical charges . Another ion is attached to this chain. The Coulomb interactions for the newly attached particle would then increase
