Kotonowaka Terumasa ( Japanese 琴 ノ 若 晴 將 ; * May 15, 1968 in Obanazawa , Yamagata Prefecture as Kamatani Mitsuya ( 鎌 谷 満 也 )) is a former Japanese sumo wrestler .

Kotonowaka began his career in May 1984, initially he called himself Konno Mitsuya ( 今 野 満 也 ), from July Kotokonno Mitsuya ( 琴 今 野 満 也 ), from March 1988 Kotonowaka Mitsuya ( 琴 の 若 實 哉 ) - with a change in the spelling of his first name - , in September 1998 Kotonowaka Masakatsu ( 琴 乃 若 將 勝 ) and finally from July 1999 Kotonowaka Terumasa .

He was promoted to the Juryo Division in 1990 and has been a member of the Makuuchi Division without interruption since 1991 . He could in several times sanyaku advance -Ränge - its highest ever reached rank was 1,999 sekiwake - owned but most of his 15-year membership in the makuuchi a fixture of maegashira -Ränge.

Kotonowaka was known for his style, which was heavily geared towards counter-attacking techniques, which often made his fights relatively long. His nickname “Mr. Ippun ”(“ Mr. One Minute ”).

Kotonowaka could never win a tournament, but at least he defeated yokozuna eight times and received five awards for fighting spirit and two for best performance in a tournament in the course of his career.

During the November 2005 tournament, Kotonowaka, who was by far the oldest fighter in his class at the time, announced his resignation. He immediately took over as stable master ( oyakata ) as Sadogatake Mitsumune ( 佐渡 ヶ 嶽 満 宗 ), the fate of his old wrestling stable Sadogatake-beya. He had created the conditions for this through his marriage to the daughter of his predecessor, the 53rd yokozuna Kotozakura .
