Sekiwake

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sekiwake ( Japanese 関脇 ) is the third highest rank in sumo , the higher of the two lower sanyaku -Ränge.

It is the highest rank in sumo that can be achieved by simple kachi-koshi (more wins than losses in a tournament). Further transport to the Ōzeki is subject to special conditions (see there). At the same time, the sekiwake is also the last rank that can be lost through mere make-koshi . In this case, the owner is downgraded to komusubi or even maegashira . There are always at least two sekiwakes, in exceptional cases three or four.

Three or four Sekiwakang are z. B. awarded if on the one hand the current sekiwake keep their ranks through kachi-kochi and on the other hand a komusubi achieves at least 11 wins.
