Kotzebue Bridge

The Kotzebue Bridge ( Ukrainian Міст Коцебу Mist Kozebu , Russian Мост Коцебу Most Kozebu ) at the Bunina Street ( вул. Буніна ) in the center of the Ukrainian city of Odessa was opened in 1892 and crosses the street Dewolaniwskyj uswis ( Ukrainian Деволанівський узвіз ). The 30 m long arch bridge was named in honor of the Governor General of Odessa Paul Demetrius von Kotzebue ( Павел Евстафьевич Коцебу Pawel Yevstafievich Kozebu ).

history

The bridge was built between 1889 and 1892 in place of a wooden bridge by the architect SA Landesman, ( С.А.Ландесман ) and the engineer Edmond G. Harris ( Е.Г. Гаррис ). The metal frame for the construction of the 70,000 ruble bridge was made in Paris in the factory of the Société des Ponts et Travaux en Fer company, which also created elements of the Eiffel Tower , and assembled and installed in Odessa. Since the street on which it lies was formerly called Police Street, the bridge was also called Police Bridge ( Полицейским мост ).

In 2017 the dilapidated bridge was restored - including the cast-iron railing and four street lamps based on drawings from the 19th century. The stairs were also reconstructed and the area around the bridge was landscaped so that the bridge is now a sight of Odessa again.
