Kovan Sindî

Kovan Sindî (* 1965 in Zaxo in Northern Iraq ) is a Kurdish poet and writer .

Life

Sindî was born in Zaxo and also completed his school education there. In 1984 he became a member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (DPK) . He became involved within the DPK against Saddam Hussein's totalitarian Baath party and fought as a peshmerga against the Iraqi army from 1987 onwards . In the late 1980s, many of his colleagues were arrested. During the Anfal operation after the end of the First Gulf War , he fled to the Turkish part of Kurdistan in August 1988 and lived there in a refugee camp in Diyarbakır .

In 1993 he emigrated to Germany . After a year in Hamburg , where he learned German, he went to Denmark. There he studied psychology at the University of Aarhus from 2001 . Sindî has been writing books since 1997. His literary works are written in his mother tongue, Kurdish.
