Kowo

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kowo (derived from the name of Carl Heinz Wolff ) was an early German "society for film production" in Berlin , which produced from the 1910s. The director and founder of Kowo was Carl Heinz Wolff, who occasionally worked as a director, screenwriter and actor in his productions.

history

Silent films by society are primarily known. The Kowo feature film An Eventful Night was made as early as 1913 . The well-known silent films also include a number of early Sherlock Holmes film adaptations, some with Hugo Flink in the title role, which were made between 1917 and 1919.

Conrad Veidt starred in the film Die Mexikanerin from 1919 and in the film Belt of Basthi Margarete Burg . One of the stars of Kowo in 1919/20 was the silent film actress Lya Ley .

The KOWO was until the 1930s, later under the name of Kowo -schicht AG (including the Lord of the Night (1927)) and Kowo-Tonfilm GmbH (including Ms. Lehmanns Töchter , Husarenliebe , both from 1932 and Aunt Gusti from 1934 ) operating, involved in film productions.
