Carl Heinz Wolff

Carl Heinz Wolff (born February 11, 1884 in Werdau ; † December 9, 1942 in Berlin ) was a German film director and film producer .

Life

He first worked as an actor and began working as a film director in Berlin during the First World War . Wolff founded his own film company Ko Wo Film, for which he directed several films about the master detective Sherlock Holmes , and later he expanded his range.

He directed a wide variety of subjects from film drama to film comedy , in which he occasionally wrote the script or took part in the production. A really resounding success did not succeed, not even through Pipin, the short one with Heinz Rühmann, who was not yet particularly popular at the time, as the main actor. Wolff continued to work as a stage actor and most recently as a guest performance director.

In the second half of the 1930s, Wolff ran into considerable financial difficulties. He was used almost exclusively for short films and was unemployed for a long time. It was not until July 1942, shortly before his death, that he was offered the prospect of directing three short films again. Wolff died at the age of only 57.
