The Kräppelstein is a prehistoric menhir in Münzenberg in the Wetterau in Hesse .

location

The stone is located on the south side of the Wetterstrasse halfway between the core town of Münzenberg and the Trais district , about 100 m before the entrance to Trais. 1.7 km northeast of Muschenheim is the gallery grave Heiliger Stein, which is connected to a menhir, and a burial mound not far from it . 2.6 km to the northeast there are several other Bronze and Iron Age burial mounds.

description

The menhir consists of conglomerate rock from the nearby Steinberg; the menhir at Muschenheim is made of the same material. The crab stone is irregularly shaped and tapers slightly. It has a total height of 330 cm (of which 240 cm above ground), a width of 160 cm and a depth of 120 cm. The stone was originally half-buried and was erected near its original location in 1978. Several small holes can be seen on its surface.

The menhir in regional sagas

There are three legends about the Kräppelstein: He should bow when you take off your hat to him. At midnight it should turn on its own axis. In one lousy night he is said to have hiked from Steinberg to where it is today.
