Root

Würzel in Altenau

The mountain town of Altenau took part in the competition “Off to the middle! - the City Initiative Niedersachsen ”. With the slogan "Altenau, there, where the pepper grows", the city entered and organized various campaigns on the subject of herbs and spices. The herb park was the focus of the competition entry.

The figure of the root was also designed for the competition . A root is a conical male whose head forms a pot with herbs or spices. The name Würzel refers on the one hand to the spices in Altenau, and on the other hand to express the roots with the homeland. Altenau was one of the 2005 award winners with the concept for the herb park, the roots have been symbolic figures of the city ever since, and the slogan has also been adopted into the city's marketing.
