The Nagel-Group SE & Co. KG , short Nagel-Group , is a Europe-wide logistics company specializing in food logistics. The family company, based in Versmold , East Westphalia , has around 130 branches in 15 countries.

history

On May 22, 1935, Kurt and Rudolf Nagel founded the shipping company “Gebr. Nagel ”in Versmold. From 1938, the brothers were also active in long-distance freight transport by acquiring the relevant license. After the Second World War , “Gebr. Nagel “started regular groupage traffic to southern Germany and Berlin.

1950 - 70s

In 1952 Kurt Nagel founded his own company under the name Kraftverkehr Nagel . With the Gütersloh media giant Bertelsmann, the company wins its first major customer in 1958. In 1959 the first branch was opened in Hamburg. A second branch was established in Munich in 1968/1969. In the 1970s, additional locations were established in Berlin, Stuttgart, Bochum, Hilden, Frankfurt, Fürth, Hanover, Achim and Heddesheim. A modern administration building is erected at the headquarters in Versmold.

1980s

In 1984 Kurt Nagel (1962–2008), son of the company founder, joined the management. He started the European business and from 1987 first opened up the Dutch market. The entry into the air freight business began with the establishment of Nagel Airfreight.

1990s

After reunification, the first branch in the new federal states was opened near Leipzig in 1990. Between 1993 and 1999 the Nagel-Group established companies in Sweden, Italy and Austria. The takeover of Ferryline in Dover was the first step to Great Britain. In France, the Nagel-Group has been represented on the market with STG & Nagel Logistique since 1999.

2000s

In 2001 the Nagel-Group took a stake in Andreas Andresen A / S, the Danish market leader in international food logistics. Between 2002 and 2005 the companies were founded in Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia. At the same time, the majority takeover of the British logistics company Langdons and the establishment of the national company Nagel Belgium took place. Nagel Iberia was founded in Spain in 2008. With the participation in Whiteland Logistics in Romania and the opening of a country representative office in Switzerland (Nagel Suisse), the European expansion continued between 2009 and 2011.

2010s

The Nagel-Group brand was promoted throughout Europe from 2012 to 2014. This was also the reason for the renaming of the national companies in Great Britain and Denmark to Nagel Langdons and Nagel Danmark respectively. At the same time, business with frozen food logistics was expanded. With the takeover of the companies Eurocool, Tiefkühllogistik-Center Wustermark (TCW) and S & G Gefrier- und Lagerhaus Rostock, deep-freeze activities in Germany intensified. With retroactive effect from January 1, 2016, the Nagel-Group acquired the Munich-based company group MUK-Transthermos , which specializes in deep-freeze logistics , from the Doblinger group of companies , after a thorough antitrust investigation and thus became the market leader in Germany in this segment .

Business areas

The main focus of the group is temperature-controlled food transport. The goods are transported across Europe in five temperature ranges from frozen to unrefrigerated. In addition, the Nagel-Group offers procurement logistics , contract logistics , warehousing , order picking , packaging and other value-added services at each location . In addition to land transport, Nagel also takes on sea ​​freight , air freight , tank logistics, load carriers and intermodal transport .
