The Soma power plant is a brown coal power plant that went into operation in 1957 in Soma in western Turkey . From 1979 onwards, six more modern power plant blocks with 165 MW each were built (Soma B). The Soma A power plant was shut down in 2010.

Lignite from the Miocene , of which 8 million tons are burned each year, is used as fuel . The waste heat from the power plant is dissipated with cell coolers .

The 510 MW Soma Kolin power plant will be built near Soma by 2017 .
