The Unteroder power plant is located in a coal-fired power plant in north-west Poland in the area of the municipality of Gryfino ( Greifenhagen ), near the district of Krajnik ( Buddenbrock ) and east of the Lower Oder Valley landscape protection park on the German-Polish border.

The power plant consists of eight blocks, two with 220 MW and six with 232 MW. Units 1 to 4 went into operation in 1974 and units 5 to 8 in 1977. The power plant has been modernized since 1993. In 2000, Blocks 7 and 8 were equipped with new control systems from Pavilion Technologies and ABB . Since October 2002, the flue gas from units 5 to 8 has been cleaned by a flue gas desulphurisation system from Lurgi Lentjes . The plant currently has an electrical output of 1832 MW and a district heating output of 100 MW for the municipality of Gryfino.

The power plant site has three chimneys with a height of 250 meters, 200 meters and 170 meters. Another 250 meter high chimney has already been demolished. The operator is planning two new natural gas-fired power plants with a capacity of 432 MW.

On January 24, 2010, a coal dust explosion killed one employee and injured three others, and part of the coal supply was damaged.
