location

The Krakow house is located in the city wall tower "Schwarzes Z", which was built around 1540 on the rear island of Schütt . The beer garden belonging to the house is located in the front of the Tratzenzwinger on the city wall.

history

The cities of Nuremberg and Krakow had close ties as early as the Middle Ages. This led to an official town twinning in October 1979. As part of this partnership, it was decided to set up two partner houses in the respective cities. The city wall tower "Schwarzes Z", built around 1540, along with its bastion, was redesigned and renovated under the leadership of the City of Nuremberg. The city took over the financing together with the patron Kurt Klutentreter . The completion of the house was celebrated on November 8, 1995, when the then Polish Foreign Minister Władysław Bartoszewski was also present. The Krakow House was opened on June 8, 1996.

Facilities

The house houses the German-Polish Society in Franconia, the Polish cultural association Krakauer Turm in Nuremberg ( Polish : Stowarzyszenie Wieża Krakowska w Norymberdze ), and also the cultural center in the Krakauer Haus. In addition to an event room, which regularly hosts concerts, readings and lectures, there is also a gallery with modern art. The first floor of the building is used as a restaurant, the adjoining Zwinger on the city wall as its beer garden. On the ground floor there is a bar and an information center with an attached travel agency that organizes trips to Poland.
